Construction of New Housing for Homeless People in Murfreesboro
Both the city of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County are among the places that have recorded the most population growth in recent years in the country. This population increase is causing a high demand for housing and is leading to more and more vulnerable individuals and families struggling to find a place to live.
Recently, The Journey Home, a Christian ministry that helps homeless people in Rutherford County, has begun the construction of a property in the city of Murfreesboro with the overall goal of finding long-term solutions and helping those who are struggling to get off the streets permanently.
The new construction is taking place within the two-story building on Old Salem Road. In this property, the nonprofit organization aims to provide temporary housing for families in emergency situations with children so that they have a safe and secure home. The organization seeks to focus on the most vulnerable children so that in the future they have a better chance of becoming healthy and productive adults for themselves and the community.
Among the objectives of The Journey Home, they also seek to offer mental and medical health services, employment services, and housing resources. In addition to this, the organization will open additional daytime services for people who are homeless.
The population increase can often be beneficial for the economic development of cities; however, this situation also brings many challenges that often exceed the capabilities of administrations to resolve them.
The Rutherford City Council, despite the significant efforts it has implemented to improve the supply of affordable housing in the city, has not had the capacity or sufficient resources to curb and minimize the problems of the most vulnerable residents.
That is why organizations like The Journey Home, which seek to contribute selflessly to this major issue, are very well accepted and supported by residents and social leaders who want to support their operations.
According to current Census records, the city of Rutherford has a large number of children living in precarious situations who are staying in motels, which are mostly not suitable or equipped for their normal development.
Although the organization currently provides a variety of services for those experiencing homelessness, such as food, clothing, hygiene products, and some medical services, the need to address the city’s crisis has driven them to seek additional help to expand their facilities.
Thanks to the assistance obtained, the organization has been able to secure the necessary financial resources to purchase this building, which will allow them to significantly expand their honorable services within the city of Rutherford.
