Open Applications for Affordable Housing in Oxnard, California
The nonprofit organization Many Mansions is accepting applications for its affordable housing project in downtown Oxnard, known as Central Terrace.
Many Mansions, based in Thousand Oaks, has opened the application process for those interested in applying for a housing space in this project. After the application period ends, a lottery will determine the future residents.
Rick Schroeder, the executive director of Many Mansions, mentions that the project will have a final cost of $46 million, and once the new residents have moved in, the rent for the housing units will be 30% of the tenants’ income.
Bryan MacDonald, Oxnard councilman and representative of District 4 where the project is located, said in an interview that he is very pleased because the development will help those who earn below the median income in the area. He expresses, “We must address this need to ensure our residents have access to quality housing.”
The Central Terrace project is a five-story building with 87 units, located at 217-235 E. Sixth St. The first floor will feature office spaces that include a small kitchen and a common area, while the remaining floors will house small one-bedroom apartments.
Of the 87 units, 35 are reserved for homeless individuals and families earning 30% or less of the area’s median income, 20 units for those at 50%, and 31 units for households with 60% or less of the median income. The remaining apartment consists of two bedrooms and will be for the new manager assigned to the building.
To give an idea of the median income of a resident of the city of Oxnard and Ventura County, according to the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the median income for a family of four is $123,500, while for a single person it is $86,450.
