Columbia Inaugurates New Affordable Housing Project

One of the essential elements for every person to achieve self-sufficiency and have a dignified and stable quality of life is the possibility of having their own home. The challenges of obtaining housing are becoming increasingly difficult to overcome, especially if incomes are not sufficient to bear all the economic burdens imposed by society to live.

Not having enough financial resources to pay for housing is an overwhelming situation that many families in the city of Columbia are currently facing. Typically, this lack of money to pay for a place to live leads them to constant relocations in search of a place that fits their income and household needs.

Although this situation is concerning for those directly affected, there are also individuals, companies, investors, and both private and public sectors in the city of Columbia who are worried about the difficulties families face today in obtaining affordable and safe housing.

Therefore, the social services organization United Way of the Midlands and its partner allies have created an affordable housing project to meet the housing needs of approximately 80 families in the city of Columbia, specifically for those settled in Richland County.

Recently, they have launched the housing project called Addison Pointe, which has already begun construction on Percival Road in Columbia. With the development of these new apartments, the working group aims to address the affordable housing problem that the city presents.

With the creation of this new project, the goal is to provide a place to live for families with a median income ranging from 20% to 70% of the median income of Richland County; thus, the rental price will range between $205 and $1,130 per month.

The new housing constructions are properties that feature one, two, and three bedrooms. Additionally, the project includes a children’s play area, an exercise room, an office for the manager, laundry facilities, a computer room, meeting spaces, and several other amenities.

Although achieving affordable housing that can be designated for low-income residents of Columbia is not an easy task, the proponents know that with the unity of people and the support of private and public entities, it will be much easier to achieve all the objectives.
