Governor of Pennsylvania Announces Major Revitalization Project in the City of Scranton
Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, along with a large number of local officials, gathered in downtown Scranton to announce a major initiative to revitalize the city center.
The project, which will be funded with state funds, involves Fidelity Bank moving from its old site at Dunmore Corners to the historic Scranton Electric Building, a building in the city center that opened its doors in 1896 and is an important part of the city’s rich history.
At the meeting, which involved a good number of journalists from different media outlets, officials highlighted that this move is expected to attract more business to downtown Scranton, revitalize it, and make this historic area of Scranton even more prosperous.
Dan Santaniello, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank, expressed his joy for the project and announced that the move will be completed by the end of 2025. Mr. Santaniello also said, “After being based in Dunmore for more than 120 years, we understand that investing in downtown Scranton will create a ripple effect.”
For his part, Governor Shapiro stated, “We are committed to reinvesting in our main streets, revitalizing buildings like this and constructing new ones, ensuring that people return to our main streets, particularly to our urban centers.”
As an added value, the project is expected to generate more than 150 new jobs in downtown Scranton, boost the creation of new small businesses in the area, and help rejuvenate this part of the city.
Officials also mentioned that the pandemic delayed the progress of the project, which will now be completed in 18 months.
