The waiting list for public housing in Savannah is now open
The administration of Savannah, Georgia, through the Housing Authority, has been working hard to address the challenges posed by the city’s current real estate market, which directly affects low-income residents.
The city of Savannah is known for its high rental prices, which create additional difficulties for low-income families to obtain affordable housing. However, the homes they currently have in their communities and complexes allow them to house as many people in need as possible.
In a recent interview with the executive director of the Housing Authority, it was announced that the administration will be opening a list of houses for public housing applications of various bedroom sizes. Among the complexes, communities, and buildings with available housing are: Simon Frazier Homes, Pickens Patterson Terrace, Yamacraw Village, Horace Stillwell Towers, and Single-Family Homes.
Initially, the director stated, all residents interested in this type of housing do not need to submit documents; pre-registration on the available list will suffice. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and only a few selected individuals will be contacted to provide all the necessary documentation to enter the program.
This application period is now limited to just two days, unlike previous years when the process could take citizens about two or three weeks to be contacted. The goal of shortening the wait time is to avoid giving Savannah residents false hope.
It is important to clarify that all applications are exclusively online and that participating does not guarantee the applicant will receive a housing offer.
