Vacant Properties in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to be Converted into Affordable Housing
With a real estate sector not at its best, a significant number of foreclosures each year, and the high interest rates currently in the market, there is good news for the residents of Pennsylvania, specifically for those living in the city of Harrisburg in Dauphin County.
This is a new affordable housing initiative announced by Wildheart Ministries, a nonprofit organization that now aims to purchase and convert five foreclosed properties in Harrisburg into affordable living spaces and commercial areas. This initiative, known as the Gateway Project, aims to offer nine housing units to families with low or moderate incomes, including one unit specifically designed for those needing ADA-compliant features. Additionally, this interesting project will include four commercial spaces that will provide services to the community of Allison Hill, one of the most marginalized and underserved neighborhoods in Harrisburg.
This effort to revitalize five properties that were abandoned or auctioned through foreclosure has already secured $58,500 in funding from the Department of Community and Economic Development through its Neighborhood Assistance Program.
In an announcement made by the state of Pennsylvania, Representative Dave Madsen said, “Affordable housing is a crucial requirement in our area, and I commend Wildheart Ministries for their efforts in Allison Hill. Their dedication to rejuvenating neighborhoods while ensuring that families have access to safe and affordable homes is a significant step toward strengthening Harrisburg.”
